14 February: The Saga of Martyrs and India’s Dark Day

While the whole world celebrates February 14 as Valentine’s Day, for India, this day symbolises grief and sacrifice. It is the very date on which our nation lost its brave sons of the soil. This day is dedicated to remembering the sacrifices of our patriots and the ultimate sacrifices made by our brave soldiers.

Pulwama Attack: When India Lost 44 Soldiers

On 14 February 2019, during the brutal terrorist attack in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, India lost 44 valiant CRPF soldiers. This cowardly attack struck at the very soul of India when terrorists from Jaish-e-Mohammed ambushed our brave soldiers’ convoy with an IED-laden vehicle. Every Indian now remembers this heartbreaking incident as a dark day.

The Execution of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev

The British's oppressive policies sentenced our great revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru to death by hanging on 14 February 1931. These brave souls did not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of the nation. Their martyrdom further ignited the fire of the Indian freedom struggle, and even today, they serve as an inspiration for the youth.

For India, 14 February is Not Valentine’s Day, But a Dark Day

While some celebrate this day as a festival of love, for patriotic Indians, it is a day of sorrow and remembrance of sacrifice. This day teaches us to honour the brave individuals who laid down their lives for the nation. We must instill in our young generation that India’s true Valentine’s Day should be a day when they express love for their country and resolve to do something for its progress.

Our Duty

  • Pay Tributes to the Martyrs: Always remember and honour the sacrifices of our martyrs.
  • Promote Patriotism: Encourage patriotism and pass on the stories of our brave soldiers to the new generation.
  • Respect Our Security Forces and Martyr Families: Offer our support and contributions to these families.
  • Stay vigilant for the integrity and sovereignty of India: Work continuously for the nation’s welfare.

Conclusion

For Indians, 14 February is not just a date—it is a symbol of sacrifice and patriotism. It reminds us of the brave souls who gave their all to protect Mother India. We take pride in being the citizens of a nation that was shaped by talented revolutionaries and martyred soldiers who contributed to India’s freedom and security. It is our duty to ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten and to offer a genuine tribute to our country.

"As long as the sun and the moon exist, the names of the martyrs will live on."

Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!
